Surf Expo: Tell us about your company and how it started.
Harold Rose, Executive VP of National Accounts: From a humbled beginning in The Netherlands in 1998, Robin Ruth is now one of the world’s largest quality manufacturers / distributors of designer styled souvenirs – Bags, Hats, t-shirts, Neck Wallets, Umbrellas, Wallets, Scarves, Caps, Key Chains, Socks, etc. With three regional offices, showrooms, and distribution centers in the United States, and affiliated offices in The Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Norway, Dubai and England, we have succeeded in building the Robin-Ruth brand as a widely recognized name around the world. We distinguish ourselves from our competitors by offering unique high quality products, which are designed with the latest trendy colors and styles, at extremely competitive price points. We are a recognized world wide brand focused on innovating to reach out for that ‘New Look”; we are the trend setters’. Our goods are so unique that our designs are patterned protected.
Where are you located?
Our Corporate office is in New York City at 1410 Broadway at the center of the Fashion Industry area.
How did you choose your name?
Boaz Avrahami, our Netherlands based founder, named the company “Robin Ruth”, after his siblings.
What product do you think you are best known for?
We are best known for our uniquely designer styled tote bags and t-shirts.
What are your distribution channels?
Our distribution channels are retail Souvenir Stores, Specialty Chains, Airport Shops, Custom Projects. And besides the thousands of retail souvenir shops and regional chains throughout the USA, some of our current clients include HMS Host, Hudson Group, Toys-R-Us, Strawberry, Ripley’s, World Disney Co, Paradies Shops, KLM/Northwest Airlines, NY Public Library, Faber, Walgreens, Marriott Hotels, EXPO (chain of 90 stores in Europe selling gift items & souvenirs), Shell Shops, Travel Traders.
How has the growth of your company been, how is the market, and what has you most excited when you look at your business?
What recession ? In the last 12 months, we’ve doubled the size of our distribution Center, had a 300% increase in staff, expanded our product offering by 35%, and at the same time, are able to continue our prompt delivery service. We are most excited about the future growth of our business and the new areas we will be entering into. We believe in what we do and what we have to offer.
Describe your experience with Surf Expo. Did it help your business?
This is our first exposure to this show and we expect to be a permanent part of your future events.
What are your thoughts about the current state of the retail market?
The next few months and the balance of this year should continue to prove to be challenging for retail sales. It will take innovative products to get shelf space. That will be the motivation and determining factor in the selection process. You must ‘think outside the box’. Can not continue to do business as before. The catch phase will be – what’s “Hot” ? What’s “different” ? What’s “new” ?
